Scotch College
Built for the 100-year anniversary of Scotch College, this VR (Virtual Reality) experience accurately recreates one of its most beautiful historical buildings.
Created for the 100-year anniversary of Scotch College, this VR experience accurately recreates one of its most beautiful historical buildings.
Complete with digitised photographs spanning the past century, users are free to navigate the space while hearing the piano recorded from within the room play, as well as interact with objects within the virtual world.
During construction, we developed an experimental 3D scanning pipeline that not only facilitates the scanning of geometric shapes and texture data, but also allows us to apply material properties (such as dull/shiny/reflective materials) not often captured through traditional 3D scanning techniques.
Care was taken to accurately capture the sound characteristics of the space. As users navigate around the virtual space, we engineered the sound so that direction and reverberation characteristics would match closely to its real-world counterpart.
Development also included the digital re-mastering of vintage photographs to be placed on the virtual walls. These images included dynamic texture scaling so that it is possible to view them in even more detail than real-life.
This VR experience serves as a historical archive that captures and preserves this space for generations to come.
