In 2019-2023, the Australian Research Council is funding a Discovery Project, Transnational Selves: French Narratives of Migration to Australia. The project brings together researchers from the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia with expertise in French studies, literary studies, migration and diaspora studies, and life writing.

This project examines texts authored by French-speaking migrants to Australia in order to explore how migrating subjects write their identity, how migrants represent the self between nations and between languages, and how Australia is viewed through the prism of another language. The project aims to write the history of French-Australian writing from its origins in the nineteenth century to the present day.
