About

Our research focusses on giving communities voice in the research process, we enable communities to do their own research, and we try to align our own work with community priorities. We also involve community members in our teaching, ensuring that our students get real life insights into the challenges facing different communities.

Our work includes long term and ongoing collaborations with Indigenous communities, local government, governments, non government organisations, ports, shipping and fishing communities. Our team includes community researchers, early career and PhD researchers as well as a number of high level university researchers across the disciplines of science, health, social science, media and politics.

We also have a Community Advisory Committee that meets once a year and gives us ongoing advice on appropriate directions for our research. This committee includes representatives from government, Indigenous groups, seafood and fishing, research, NRM, ENGO and local governments. For more information on membership or on how to get involved with this group please email us.

If you would like to know how to develop research skills so you can do your own research we run “Community research skills” workshops twice a year. Please email us if you wish to attend one of these workshops or would like more information about them.

Also, if you have any ideas for research, or information that you need please email us on the contact below.
