Departments
The School of Social Sciences is made up of five departments, including Anthropology and Development Studies, Asian Studies, Geography, Environment and Population, Sociology, Criminology and Gender Studies, and Politics and International Relations.
The academic staff at the School have national and international profiles and we have an outstanding track record of success in attracting research funding. Academic staff have global networks highlighted in their research affiliations and extensive publications.
Anthropology and Development Studies
The Department of Anthropology and Development Studies is concerned with issues of social and cultural difference, inequality and social justice.
Asian Studies
The Department of Asian Studies is the only institution in South Australia offering a full sequence of Chinese and Japanese language courses.
Geography, Environment and Population
The Department of Geography, Environment and Population offers a wide range of programs that explore important issues, such as climate change, global migration and urban development from a wide variety of perspectives with the emphasis on social justice and ecological, social and cultural sustainability.
Sociology, Criminology and Gender Studies
Within the Department of Sociology, Criminology and Gender Studies, we offer a range of programs, including a Bachelor of Criminology and a Bachelor of Sociology, as well as majors in Gender Studies, Sociology and Criminology.
Politics and International Relations
The Department of Politics & International Relations has strengths in the areas of electoral studies, gender studies, Australian politics, political theory, international relations, environmental politics, development studies, security studies, and the rising powers of China and India.
