Classical guitar students from the University of Adelaide's Elder Conservatorium of Music will embark on a six-hour performance marathon. In its fourth year the successful event will kick off at 4.00 pm, Saturday 13 November in Elder Hall.
Under the direction of senior lecturer Dr Oliver Fartach-Naini, 12 undergraduate and postgraduate students will perform an eclectic program of solo and chamber music.
"Rather than just preparing for performance exams and technique assessments, this unique event is a fun way for our up-and-coming performers to put on display some of the fantastic music we've been working on," says Dr Fartach-Naini.
"It’s also a less formal opportunity for audiences to get a taste of the many things classical guitar entails as people will be free to wander in and out of Elder Hall as they please, sampling high-calibre guitar music as well as delicious food and wine, staying for however long they like.”
The stylistically very diverse programme includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Kaspar Mertz, Leo Brouwer, Miguel Llobet, Carlo Domeniconi, Philip Houghton, Astor Piazzolla, Bryan Johansson, Isaac Albeniz, Maximo Diego Pujol, James Rawley, Gary Ryan, Alan Thomas, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Fernando Sor and many more.
The non-stop event will culminate in a performance of the Elder Conservatorium Guitar Ensemble featuring the combined talents of Emanuel Auciello, Megan Robson, Connor Whyte, Eduardo Ruiz, Jack Daws, Callum Goodhand, Alexandra Shepherd, Caleb Lavery-Brook, Queenie Li and James Rawley.
Performances will start at 4 pm, with each performance lasting anywhere between 15 to 60 minutes.
This is a free event. Food and drink will be available for purchase at the event.
This event is proudly sponsored by Kay Brothers Winery.
This event is another example of how the University of Adelaide is playing an active role in the community as part of the Beating Heart of Adelaide.
