Women in Economics Network SA (WEN SA) and the School of Economics and Public Policy invite you to a special event, featuring Professor Stephanie Kelton, a foremost expert on Modern Monetary Theory, former Chief Economist to Bernie Sanders, and a renowned professor at Stony Brook University. Joining Stephanie is Maren Poitras, director of the documentary "Finding the Money ,” featuring Stephanie Kelton.

In conversation with Dr. Tania Dey (Outgoing WEN SA Co-chair), they'll be discussing Stephanie's inspiring career, as well as her experiences as a woman in academia, politics, and public policy. Plus, you'll receive a sneak peek at Maren's upcoming documentary.


About Professor Stephanie Kelton

Stephanie Kelton is Professor of Economics and Public Policy at Stony Brook University and a Senior Fellow at the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis at the New School for Social Research. She is a leading expert on Modern Monetary Theory and a former Chief Economist on the U.S. Senate Budget Committee (Democratic staff). She was named by POLITICO (2016) as one of the 50 people most influencing the policy debate in America, as one of the 50 people who defined 2019 by Bloomberg Businessweek, as one of Barron’s top 100 Women in Finance (2020 & 2021), and by Prospect Magazine (2020) as one of the World’s Top 50 Thinkers. Professor Kelton advises policymakers and consults with investment banks, and portfolio managers across the globe. She is a regular commentator on national radio and broadcast television. Her most recent book (June 2020), The Deficit Myth, became an instant New York Times bestseller.

About Maren Poitras

Maren Poitras is Associate Producer with Codebreaker Films, on Enemies of the State (TIFF 2020) and Reality Winner (2023). Originally from the California Bay Area, Poitras has a background in environmental science and agriculture from UC Berkeley. Maren Poitras's feature documentary debut is FINDING THE MONEY, which world premiered at Woodstock Film Festival 2023 and received the Audience Award for Best Feature at the Green Film Festival of San Francisco. Maren's current interest and subject matter focuses on politics, economics, climate change, and activism.
