THE SA POSTGRADUATE AND ECR GENDER, SEX, AND SEXUALITIES CONFERENCE

The fifth annual South Australian Postgraduate and Early Career Researcher gender, sex, and sexualities conference, Space and Place: Conceptions of movement, belonging and boundaries, was hosted by the Fay Gale Centre at the University of Adelaide on September 19-20. The two-day, single stream conference was hugely successful, with over twenty presentations from honours, masters and PhD students and early career researchers, a moderated panel session, and two keynote presentations including one from a visiting interstate scholar.

Space and Place was also explored visually through art that displayed at the conference. The conference was closed with a creative partner event that brought together conference delegates, local artists and the broader community in a creative and dynamic exploration of the conference theme. This year’s conference also featured a series of five conference workshops held in the month leading up to the conference to support scholars in developing skills in doing, writing and presenting socially aware research. Space and Place 2018 provided a supportive and exciting environment to connect with other gender, sex and sexuality scholars, learn about others’ research, and explore the conference theme.

Space and Place 2018 was generously supported by the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and Wirltu Yarlu Aboriginal Education at the University of Adelaide and the Research Network for Studies in Gender, Sexualities and Equity in the School of Creative Industries at the University of South Australia.
