National webinar on 'Gender Responsive Budgeting'
School of Economics and Public Policy is pleased to have co-hosted the national webinar: 'Gender Responsive Budgeting in Australia: Insights into Government Budget Statements and Processes on 18 August.
This webinar provided insights into the history, principles and practice of Gender Responsive Budgeting within Australia and internationally. The webinar was co-organized and moderated by the South Australian Co-chairs of the Women in Economics Network, Associate Professor Duygu Yengin (SEPP) and Dr Tania Dey (BDO EconSearch).
The webinar started with the opening remarks of Professor Fiona Yap (Head of SEPP) who highlighted the value of placing a “gender lens” on economic policy and budget design. Professor Yap also discussed the contributions of Women in Economics Network in supporting the careers of women in economics.
The webinar brought together the expertise of five eminent experts, who bring a combination of economic, legislative and public policymaking insights to this issue:
- Emeritus Professor Rhonda Sharp (University of South Australia)
- Dr Monica Costa (Curtin University)
- Professor Miranda Stewart (University of Melbourne)
- Professor Helen Hodgson (Curtin University and the National Foundation for Australian Women), and
- Associate Professor Julie Smith (Australian National University)
