University of Adelaide’s Apple Distinguished School status extended to 2027
The University of Adelaide’s School of Education has had its nation-first Apple Distinguished School designation extended to 2027, which will officially carry through to the new Adelaide University.
Not only are we still the only university in Australia to have this title (which was originally instated in 2021) but this extended designation will officially carry through to Adelaide University, commencing teaching in 2026.
This award means the University of Adelaide’s School of Education has been recognised by Apple for its continuous leadership and innovation in learning and teaching, and the school environment, through the eLearning Program embedded in our Teaching degrees.
The program enables students to:
- create outstanding learning resources and lesson plans with contemporary technologies
- hone their digital technology teaching skills through placements in some of Australia’s most cutting-edge schools
- gain internationally recognised Apple Teacher status.
“As an Apple Distinguished School, our students can blend creativity and technology with their love of teaching and learning,” says Dr Walter Barbieri, Senior Lecturer within the School of Education, who leads the eLearning Program and was instrumental in the University receiving its Apple Distinguished School status.
“Our pre-service teachers create dynamic learning experiences with immersive, multimedia resources, including AR and AI. Through our innovations, we can modernise the teaching profession so every child can enjoy the wonder of learning at its best.”
Dr Barbieri explains, “the School of Education is thrilled to have secured the renewal of our Apple Distinguished School status. Through this accolade, we will network with a range of innovative schools on a global scale and continue to push the boundaries of what is achievable in teaching and learning through technology.”
