Biodiversity and Intensive Agriculture

Beckett

On 25 September 2020, FVRG was joined by Assistant Professor Beckett Sterner (Arizona State University) to discuss biodiversity and intensive agriculture.

Beckett spoke about the possibility of finding mutual benefits for biodiversity and business in the context of a collaborative grant proposal he recently submitted to the agricultural company Bayer. During the discussion, Beckett spoke about the need to develop incentive mechanisms to help drive changes in farmer practices in order to achieve positive outcomes for both biodiversity and profit. He also elaborated on some of the trade-offs than can occur when implementing such practices at the practical level.
