Digital Food: From Paddock to Platform
On 4 December 2020, Prof Tania Lewis (RMIT University) joined the Food Values Research Group to discuss her new book Digital Food.
During the seminar, Tania spoke about the rise of the digital culinary cultural economy which has emerged out of the increasing digitalisation of our everyday lives. This proliferation of food in the media has also led to an increase in food literacy in society. In addition, Tania spoke to the group about the associations between gender and food media. In particular, she took note of the way in which young men and fathers have come to embrace the digital food space. The group also discussed the gap that exists between food as presented in the media and food in reality and the issues of elitism that can often be associated with media representations of food.
