Food Instagram: Identity, Influence, and Negotiation

On 16 June 2022, the Food Values Research Group hosted a launch for the book Food Instagram with the book's editors Asst Prof Emily Contois and Asst Prof Zenia Kish as well as our panel of experts Prof Deborah Lupton and Dr Michelle Phillipov.

During the seminar, which was chaired by Dr Emily Buddle, we heard about the various ways in which representations of food and eating have been presented on Instagram by both everyday users and industry professionals. In particular, Emily and Zenia spoke about the motivations behind the book and talked about the book's overarching themes of identity, influence and negotiation. We also heard from our panellists Deborah and Michelle who offered their thoughts on the book.
