Gustav Holst’s First Suite for wind orchestra is a masterpiece of the concert band repertoire, full of colour and broad lyricism. Takahashi’s splendid arrangement of Bizet’s beloved Carmen Suite provides a dramatic operatic close to the program, with Paul Hart’s light-hearted Circus Ring serving as a delightfully cheeky palate cleanser. Concert duration: 60 minutes
