OMA Opening concert

The Open Music Academy (OMA), led by Edith Salzmann, hosted an inspiring concert in Elder Hall on Saturday 22 February, launching its new program. Approximately 150 attendees enjoyed a wonderful program which brought together staff and students of the OMA and the Elder Conservatorium of Music. Highlights included performances by 13-year-old violinist George Graham Kay, the OMA String Quartet, and newly-formed OMA ensembles. The audience also got a preview by Elizabeth Layton, Stephen King and Edith Salzmann (all teachers within the program) of a trio which will feature in the inaugural Ensemble Lumen concert, as part of the Adelaide Festival's Daylight Express series. Congratulations to all for a successful event and an exciting program launch.

Third-year jazz vocalists Maisie Aitken and Grace Northam have been announced as finalists in the 2025 Generations in Jazz Vocal Scholarship.

Lloyd Van't Hoff, Erin James, Lauren Henderson and Dr Lyndon Gray graduated from the Leadership for Emerging Academics and Professionals (LEAP) program last Thursday 20 March. Thanks to this infusion of creative energy from the Elder Conservatorium, it was a dynamic and engaging graduation ceremony in the form of a talk show, directed by our very own Erin James, with an uplifting soundtrack provided by Lloyd Van't Hoff, Lauren Henderson and Dr Lyndon Gray.
Square Circles at the Sydney Opera House

On Wednesday 19 March the Sydney Opera House premiered a new commission of Square Circles for their dome cinema. Directed by William Barton and Stephen King, it's a computer-generated cinematic experience set to music written and performed by Barton and the Australian String Quartet. Square Circles shows at the Opera House each Wednesday–Saturday till Saturday 5 April.
Dylan Cooper's Band 'Raccoon City' Launches New Album

Elder Conservatorium Technical Officer Dylan Cooper's band Raccoon City released their third album, entitled Fugue, on Friday 28 March. The album was recorded by Dylan between his own studio and throughout spaces in the Con, including Elder Hall, the Schulz studios and the Schulz stairwell.

Emma Knights in Antwerp, Belgium

Elder Conservatorium composition student Emma Knights recently travelled overseas for the world-premiere performance of her orchestrations of Trois Morceaux pour Piano by Lili Boulanger, as part of the Virago Symphony Orchestra's Women in Motion concert series in the Toneelhuis in Antwerp, Belgium.
Professor Carlo Forlivesi Visit

The Elder Conservatorium recently hosted a visit by Carlo Forlivesi, a Professor of Composition at the Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro, Italy – another UNESCO City of Music. In addition to contributing to classes and seminars, Professor Forlivesi presented a solo recital on the organ in the Adelaide Town Hall on Wednesday 12 March, including his own compositions and a repertoire extending from the 17th to the 21st centuries. Carlo Forlivesi's Australasian visit was presented in partnership with the Italian Cultural Institute in Melbourne and the Université Côte d'Azur.
