"I was cut off from the world, there was no one to confuse or torment me, and I was forced to become original.” Haydn used these words to explain the development of his compositional style; and his originality shines in his 88th Symphony. Originality also permeates the drama-filled overture from the Barber of Seville, displaying the wit and inventiveness typical in Rossini’s operas. Reineke’s flute concerto, an integral piece in the romantic repertoire, showcases the extraordinary capabilities of the flute – virtuosic, fluent, and lyrical.
