Evening Concert - Australian String Quartet

AUSTRALIAN STRING QUARTET

Beethoven String Quartet in A Major Op. 18 No. 5
Debussy String Quartet in G minor Op. 10

The String Quartet in A major is the fifth of six string quartets written by Beethoven between 1798 and 1800. It’s best described as a work full of grace and eloquence, occasionally interrupted by bursts of Beethoven’s humour. Debussy’s quartet in G minor appears in a traditional four-movement form – the first movement in sonata form, the second a scherzo, the third slow and lyrical and the finale energetic and driving. However, interlaced in this traditional form Debussy has laid his personal mark; using non-traditional scales and chords, unexpected key transitions, and more.
