Musicianship Class at Open Music Academy (Term 2 2024)

Musicianship Classes at Open Music Academy (Term 2 2024)

Fluent in Music: Join our Musicianship Class and learn the Language of Music from Adelaide composer/violinist Kai Gerbi

In our Musicianship class, students will learn important skills to complement their instrumental playing. The class will use Aural Training inspired by the Kodály Method and Music Theory to gain a deeper understanding of Music. Together we will even learn to compose music, using the same exercises which Beethoven worked on with his teacher as a teenager!

Here's what we'll be learning:

Aural Skills: Train your ear to recognise chords, intervals and key changes.
Sight Reading: Reinforce what you can hear through accurate production of intervals through singing in parts.
Music Theory: Understand what you are hearing, how major and minor keys work, and musical form.
Composing: Learn to see music from the composer's perspective by developing the skills to write classical music.

Level up your Instrumental Playing: Musicianship isn't just a side note; it's the key to taking their progress on their instrument to the next level. If your child is aged 11–18 and is playing at an AMEB Grade 4 (or equivalent) level or higher, this class is perfect for them!

When: 9 weekly sessions Thursdays 5.00–6.00pm. 2 May until 27 June.
Where: Lessons will be held in Bishop Hall – North Terrace, Adelaide – see map K12, access via back of Elder Hall
Who: Ages 11–18 who have 4+ years of playing experience OR are at AMEB Grade 4+ level.
