Australian String Quartet at the String Quartet Biennale in Amsterdam

Our Quartet in Residence, the Australian String Quartet, has recently returned from a major international trip taking Australian music to the world stage at the 2024 String Quartet Biennale in Amsterdam – the world's largest celebration of the string quartet artform. They presented three programs featuring a heavily Australian voice, which included the world premiere of nvilamum – song cycles by Dr Lou Bennett AM and Paul Stanhope. Alongside this, their ground-breaking VR experience, Square Circles (directed by William Barton and Stephen King) was installed in the foyer of the Muziekgebouw for festival attendees to enjoy. Following the biennale, the quartet travelled to Italy where they performed at Rome's iconic Quirinale Palace (one of the official residencies of the President of the Italian Republic) and at high-profile diplomatic engagements for the Australian Embassy in Rome and the Australian Ambassador to the Holy See.
