Call for Papers – Music and Mediation
Mediation, in all its possible senses, from transmission to conflict resolution, is particularly relevant in times of technological innovation, sustainability challenges, forced displacement and struggles for equality or survival. This conference, generously supported by the Musicological Society of Australia (MSA), is concerned with the ways music and the study of music may contribute to the many theories and practices around mediation. We invite proposals from all disciplines, for panels, individual papers, and roundtable discussions, until Monday 16 December.
Professor Anna Goldsworthy to Give ABC Boyer Lecture on Classical Music in the Contemporary Age
In a series of four orations delivered by noted musicians and luminaries, the 2024 ABC Boyer Lectures will explore the state of classical music in Australia in the contemporary age. The series will commence with Professor Anna Goldsworthy delivering a moving lecture with live music exploring the connections between life and music on Thursday 31 October at the ABC Ultimo Studios.
Michael Cox Flute Course 2024
Emerita Fellow Associate Professor Elizabeth Koch AM directed the fourth flute course to be held in Adelaide with Michael Cox in October this year. The course attracted some of the best players from around the country.
William Barton to Perform in Lunchtime Concert on Friday 1 November
We are delighted to announce that internationally acclaimed didjeridu virtuoso William Barton will be performing in next week's lunchtime concert! Under the baton of Associate Professor Luke Dollman, the Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra presents a fascinating program that transcends cultural boundaries and celebrates the profound connection between humanity and the natural world.

Art of the Possible: Composer Concerts
Over two nights at the University of Adelaide's student-led Art of the Possible Festival, the composition students of the Elder Conservatorium are taking over Elder Hall.
'David Shifrin and Friends' Concert Postponed
This Friday night's Elder After Hours concert, 'David Shifrin and Friends' has been postponed. We are in the early stages of rescheduling David's visit to late 2025. In the meantime we will refund all tickets purchased.

Douglas Coghill Visit
Last week the Elder Conservatorium hosted violist Douglas Coghill from Coghill String Instruments in Tasmanian. Douglas set up a work room in Elder Hall to do some work on our much-loved instruments and was also kept busy re-hairing bows.
Alice by Heart
Hot off the heels of Jesus Christ Superstar, our Music Theatre department delivered another stunning sold-out production last week. Alice by Heart ran from Thursday 10–Sunday 13 October in Union House's Little Theatre and showcased the talents of our wonderful second year students.
