Over two nights in October, the composition students of the Elder Conservatorium took over Elder Hall to showcase their work at the University of Adelaide's student-led Art of the Possible Festival. These concerts marked the first time we've premiered new works by all composition students in almost a decade.
Congratulations to our current Bachelor of Music (Creative Practice) students and alumni Benjamin Betelli, Edmund L. Sikorski, Emma Knights, Kayla Hinton, Ty Robinson, Belle Smibert, Erin A. Carnegie-Brown, Kris Mann, Joey Yau, Clinton Marchi, Heidi Fopp, Leah Komad-Antic, Heather Duthie, Charlie Wells, Ben Lyons-Reid, Matthew Coldrey, Denzel Porlanje, Thomas Gray, Ella Jozinovic, and Raffael Raschella, who all had their work showcased over two concerts in Elder Hall on Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 October. Thanks to tutors Dr Anne Cawrse, Dr Dylan Crismani, and Associate Professor Carl Crossin OAM who have worked tirelessly this semester to guide the development of these works.
We would also like to acknowledge all the performers who bravely took on the challenge of premiering 20 new works over the two concerts. A special thank you to Henry Bradley (trumpet), William Bailey (trumpet), Liam McBride (horn), Adam Draper (tenor trombone), Stan McDonald (tuba), Noah Miller (marimba), Cameron Edminson (vibraphone), Isabella Van Loenen (tubular bells and auxiliary percussion), Emma Knights (piano), James Whiting (vibraphone), Kayla Hinton (voice), Heidi Rangai (piano), Hannah Wilkinson (piano and electronics), Kelsey Gale (soprano), Belle Smibert (piano), Annaliese Jeffrey (flute), Caitlin Murray (flute), Hannah Bampton (clarinet), Amber Bader-Hayes (clarinet), Lucy Ryan (flute), Neal Perkins (oboe), Lauren Owens (horn), Chiara Panetta (bassoon), Joey Yau (violin), Tianyou Jiang (viola), Ella Jozinovic (cello), Adina Lopez (violin), Thomas Cheung (violin), Javier Goh (viola), Henry Say (cello), Annelie Budgen (clarinet), Leo Zhan (piano), Charlie Wells (piano), Tim Shephard (violin), Lauren Parker (cello), C Maria Tynan (piano), Chiara Kelle (cello), Zac Serghis (clarinets), and Maria Tynan (piano) for all their support and hard work in bringing these pieces to life.
These special concerts marked the first time we've premiered new works by all composition students at the Elder Conservatorium in almost a decade. The Art of the Possible festival also included performances by bands in The Groove Garden, which featured a large number of pop and sonic arts students and alumni, including recent MPhil graduate Hannah Yates (who currently works with us at the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music) and BMus Hons alumna Emma Knights (who also served as General Manager of the Festival). Congratulations to all involved.
