From little things... (Elder After Hours)
The Elder Conservatorium Chorale gave their final concert for the year on Saturday 1 November in Elder Hall. The concert was the culmination of a four-day residency at the Conservatorium with ensemble coach extraordinaire Timothy Wayne-Wright (a former member of The King's Singers). Tim worked with Chorale in the magical art of performing as an un-conducted ensemble (no mean feat for a 75-voice SATB choir!) but also spent many hours in fabulous and productive rehearsal with a sextet of Classical Voice students developing their skills as a one-voice-to-a-part ensemble. The sextet (named CV6) consisted of Rosy O'Connor, Hannah Szabo, Daisy Jury, Callum Logan, Sean Kelley and Willow Barrett, and shared the concert with the Chorale.
Enhancing both Chorale and CV6 throughout the concert was the sensitive artistry of Karl Geiger. Karl is an experienced and highly skilled choral conductor and accompanist in Adelaide, and he has been the accompanist with Chorale for the last 15 years. All accompanists deserve our warmest thanks and acknowledgement but Karl's role with Chorale in particular, is very much valued and respected.
Chorale also performed two excellent new works by student composers Kristopher Man and Charlie Wells. The Chorale was conducted by Associate Professor Carl Crossin OAM, but some of the conducting duties were also shared with current second-year Classical Voice student Sean Kelley and recent Classical Voice graduate Joeryn Weh En Loh.
