Dancing with the Birds (Daylight Express)
The opening concert in this year's Adelaide Festival Daylight Express series featured several current and former Elder Conservatorium staff members. Titled 'Dancing with the Birds', this concert showcased the talents of our very own Elizabeth Layton, Lucinda Collins, Anna Goldsworthy, as well as Lloyd Van't Hoff who both performed in and curated the event. We were pleased to welcome back Konstantin Shamray who flew in for the day to join us for this special occasion. The program took inspiration from the themes of 'birds' and 'Australiana', that feature in abundance within this year's Adelaide Festival. Repertoire included Peter Sculthorpe's Songs of the Sea and Sky, Ross Edwards' Prelude and White Cockatoo Spirit Dance, a world-premiere adaptation of Nicholas Russoniello's Werri Dance II, and Igor Stravinsky's Firebird Suite arranged for two pianos – an arrangement which we believe may well have been an Australian premiere!
