Marietta Resek Celebrates 100th Birthday

'One of the dearest members of our Elder Con "family", Marietta Resek, is pictured below listening to a solo Schubert performance on the violin she brought with her on the Jewish Kindertransport train from Vienna to London in 1938 (her violin was played by Dr Nicholas Adams, psychiatrist and Elder Con alumnus).

We celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday 18 May. She received cards and messages from the King; the Governor General; the State Governor; the federal Prime Minister; and the State Premier, among many others. I was there representing the Elder Conservatorium, pictured here with Marietta and another of our greatest supporters, the Hon. Justice Christopher Legoe, AO, KC, great-great-nephew of Sir Thomas Elder, and former member of the Elder Conservatorium Advisory Board.

Below you can see the gold balloons marking Marietta's 100th birthday. Marietta and her sister, Ellen (both Holocaust survivors born in Vienna), are major donors to the Con via the EMR Fund supporting the EMR Distinguished Visiting Artist (in 2023 Professor Adam Gorb from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester) and the EMR overseas scholarships.'
