In an effort to champion Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander voices, The Hospital Research Foundation Group – Creative Health welcomed Basso Edwards and Aaron Fraser, two musicians from the APY Lands and students at the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM) to perform at the Royal Adelaide Hospital on Tuesday 28 May.

Elder Conservatorium / Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Training Program

ECM/ASO Orchestral Trainees Isabella van Loenen, Tim Tran and Joyce Kwok

In this new initiative in collaboration with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Elder Conservatorium of Music students have the opportunity to take a deep dive into the life of an orchestral musician, participating in side-by-side playing within the orchestra, mock auditions, rehearsal observations, before a final audition for casual employment with the Orchestra.

Open Music Academy Students Compose with ASO

Open Music Academy Students Compose with ASO

A group of regional OMA students from years 7–12 were involved in creating a new composition with Julian Ferraretto as part of the Compose with ASO project. The OMA students spent a full day at Grainger studios writing thematic material and orchestrating their music using graphic notation, from which they took away a full score and a recording of their work.

ECM Jazz Department Staff and Alumni Profiled in Dingo Journal

Recently the Australian Jazz Journal Dingo featured an article profiling 65 Australian Jazz musicians. Each artist was asked to explore their influences, their backgrounds and to provide personal reflections on jazz. It was lovely to see seven Elder Conservatorium alumni included in this fascinating article: saxophonists Gai Bryant and Adam Page, trombonists Jasmine Hall and Alex Taylor, drummers Ronny Ferella and Angus Mason, and our current Head of Jazz, pianist Mark Ferguson. 'She Speaks' Festival Receives a Five-Star Review in Limelight

The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra's third instalment of the She Speaks festival, highlighting the music of women composers, was held in Elder Hall from Friday 31 May–Sunday 2 June, featuring four concerts curated by our Adjunct Lecturer in Composition, Dr Anne Cawrse, and Elder Conservatorium alumnus Belinda Gehlert.
