Adelaide Wind Orchestra in South Korea

The Adelaide Wind Orchestra (AWO) is departing to South Korea this week! AWO is proud to have been selected to perform at the 20th International Conference of the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) in Gwangju, South Korea, in July 2024, among a very limited number of ensembles worldwide.

Their goal is to showcase the artistic practice of Australians on the world stage including new works by living Australian composers such as distinguished Elder Conservatorium graduates Dr. Martin Cheney, Dr. Anne Cawrse, Dr. David John Lang, and Dr. Connor Fogarty, alongside another exceptional living Australian composer, Holly Harrison. The touring ensemble is made up of a majority of past and present Elder Conservatorium students and graduates, led by Bryan Griffiths, and has been a similar composition since their forming in 2012, providing a unique and ongoing learning opportunity inspired by the late Robert 'Bob' Hower and his Elder Conservatorium Wind Ensemble.

If you would like to support the AWO, when they return they continue with their concert series in Elder Hall with 'Painted Rainbows' in September (featuring Simón Pazos Quintana performing Janáček's Capriccio for Left Hand Piano and Wind Ensemble) and 'Mysterium' in November (featuring organist Joshua van Konkelenberg performing Stuart Greenbaum's The Gradual Slowing of the Earth).
