International Jazz Sensation Jazzmeia Horn Returns to Adelaide in October 2024
Jazzmeia Horn returns to Adelaide this October with concerts, masterclasses and an exciting new project with local hip-hop group, DEM MOB.
Following on from the success of last year's exclusive Australian appearance, Horn returns to Adelaide this October to captivate jazz lovers and mentor the next generation of South Australian musicians.
The three-time Grammy nominee will headline concerts at UKARIA Cultural Centre and Adelaide Town Hall. In an Australian exclusive, Horn will collaborate with DEM MOB, students from the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM), University of Adelaide, and our state's rising jazz students from the Elder Conservatorium of Music, University of Adelaide to write, record and produce a new music track and video.
During her time in Adelaide, Horn will mentor, educate and perform with the state's top jazz students and graduating musicians at Helpmann Academy's annual A Night of Jazz event and awards at Adelaide Town Hall.
Horn says: 'I am so excited to be returning to Adelaide to mentor and perform with the next generation of homegrown jazz talent. I was completely blown away by the calibre of musicians from the Elder Conservatorium of Music last year; it was such an incredible experience working with them. I can't wait to meet the students from CASM and work with DEM MOB to create something new... it's going to be a pretty memorable couple of weeks.'
The award-winning vocalist, producer, activist, writer, and educator returns to Adelaide as a guest of the Helpmann Academy, University of Adelaide and the City of Adelaide.
Professor Anna Goldsworthy, Director of the Elder Conservatorium of Music, says: 'Jazzmeia had a galvanising effect on our community during her visit last year. It was an immersive, empowering and for some, transformative experience. We are thrilled Jazzmeia returns in 2024, bringing her unique blend of artistry and pedagogical innovation not only to our jazz students but also to our Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music. Exposure to an international artist of this calibre can have a profound impact on the career trajectory of young musicians, and we are grateful to the Helpmann Academy for this remarkable opportunity.'
Jane MacFarlane, Helpmann Academy CEO, says: 'The Helpmann Academy A Night of Jazz event and awards night is a highlight on the calendar for us, the University of Adelaide and our philanthropic partners. We are thrilled to be partnering with the City of Adelaide this year to showcase these incredibly talented emerging and established musicians at the iconic Adelaide Town Hall.'
Horn's return to Adelaide is a coup for jazz enthusiasts and students alike, as Horn has literally written the book on jazz vocal with the release of her 2021 book: Strive from Within: The Jazzmeia Horn Approach.
