Lucy Macourt in Toronto and Michigan
Lucy Macourt recently travelled to the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Insitute at the University of Toronto and the Center Stage Strings Institute at the University of Michigan with the support of the Decie Denholm Scholarship. Tafelmusik's training further developed the baroque violin performance skills she is developing in the Con's Baroque Ensemble with Rob Nairn, through chamber music, masterclasses, orchestral training, daily lectures and Baroque dance classes. At Center Stage in Michigan, Lucy observed the teaching of leading pedagogues working with students aged 11–24. In addition to the performance training, Lucy was also impressed by the outreach training that these students experienced, with speech coaches working with the students to help them present on their repertoire and guide them on how to present outreach programs to pre-schools, nursing homes, on the radio and in art galleries. Lucy has a goal to establish a similar program in Australia. Lucy would like to thank Emily Dollman, Rob Nairn, and Elizabeth Layton who encouraged her to take the leap and apply for the Decie Denholm Scholarship so she could experience world-leading Baroque performance practice training and observe so many excellent pedagogues.
