A Day at the Con 2024 – Classical Performance

Hot on the heels of the University's Open Day, our own Day at the Con on Saturday 24 August 2024 was a great success, with over 650 registrations recorded in Humanitix across our Classical, Jazz, Music Theatre and Creative Practice departments. It was a joy to see young musicians engaging actively with our programs: singing, playing, dancing, improvising, recording, and getting to know our community. Warmest thanks to all – from those who hosted sessions to our professional staff members working behind the scenes. Thanks to Daisy Davidson for providing the photos below!

We had a great turn out for sessions across our Classical Performance department, representing keyboard, strings, guitar, woodwind, brass and percussion. A big thanks to Lucinda Collins, Associate Professor Carl Crossin OAM, Dr Elizabeth Layton, Edith Salzmann, Rob Nairn, Stephen King, Dr Oliver Fartach-Naini, Caleb Lavery-Brook, Kathryn Moorhead, Lloyd Van't Hoff, Dr Emma Gregan, Colin Prichard, and Amanda Grigg.

A special thanks to Mark Ferguson (piano), Alex Taylor (brass), James Muller (guitar), Lauren Henderson (voice), Dr Lyndon Gray (bass), Vashti Tyrell (saxophone), and all our wonderful students in the Jazz Department!

Special thanks to George Torbay AM, Zoe Kermond, Joseph Simons, Erin James, Peter Johns and our wonderful students for such a terrific showcase of our Music Theatre faculty!

Throughout the day, Creative Practice sessions were run by Associate Professor Luke Harrald, Stephen Whittington, Dr Dylan Crismani, Dr Daniel Pitman, and Dr Sebastian Tomczak, and included performances by our current Popular Music students, a recording session, a vintage synths demonstration and an Ableton Live Workshop. A big thanks to all involved!
