Open Music Academy Regional Program Life-changing for Riverland Students

Riverland students William Heuzenroeder, Grace Kelly, and Juliet Haenen have been developing their musical theatre craft this year as recipients of Open Music Academy's regional scholarship program.

The three singers are all students at Loxton High School and have travelled to Adelaide University each fortnight to receive tuition.

The 600km round trip for music lessons is a significant commitment for the students and their families and they have been coordinating a carpool to make it more manageable.

'It's a big day but travelling to Adelaide for these lessons is always worth it, the experience has been life-changing,' said William.

They are fortunate to study under musical theatre instructor David Gauci, whose mentorship has been instrumental in shaping their journeys.

'David's teaching of musical theatre has opened up a whole new world for me,' said Juliet.

The scholarships, provided to regional musicians by the Open Music Academy, assist with the costs of tuition and travel.

The OMA and it's scholarship program has been invaluable for William, Grace and Juliet to access expert training and set them on a path to pursue their dreams outside of their regional community.

'The scholarship has given me the chance to explore my passion for musical theatre in a way I never thought possible,' said Grace.

The trio has been embracing opportunities to perform in musical theatre productions in their local community as well as in Adelaide, including at Broadway Sessions and OMA's recitals.
