OMA Connection Day: A Song for Willunga High School
On Friday 15 November the Open Music Academy (OMA) visited Willunga High School for a day of demonstrations, performances and workshops with students from years 8–11. Dr Julian Ferraretto facilitated the day with accomplished support from Elder Conservatorium jazz students Heath Oetjen and Haysan Morris. The activites were interwoven in the creation of a song about Willunga, with the lyrics, melody and rhythm generated by the school students. The comments from the Willunga students after the day were insightful and enjoyable including:
'I enjoyed seeing how proper musicians play and make music'
'I loved that we got to make a group song about our area' and
'I learnt that violin is underrated'
