The annual Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics (FABLE) Awards for Outstanding Achievement were announced on Tuesday 10 December 2024. Congratulations to Dr Elizabeth Layton (Head of Classical Performance and Head of Strings), who received the Excellence in Teaching (Individual Teaching in a Continuing Position) Award!

Dr Anne Cawrse, Dr Jesse Budel and Charlee Watt Win Adelaide Critics Circle Awards 2024

On Monday 9 December at Goodwood Theatres, our Adjunct Lecturer in Composition Dr Anne Cawrse was the recipient of the Independent Professional Award; Elder Conservatorium PhD graduate Dr Jesse Budel won the Independent Arts Foundation Award for Innovation; and Elder Conservatorium Open Music Academy alumna Charlee Watt received the Emerging Artist of the Year Award, presented by the Adelaide Critics Circle.

Dr Anne Cawrse's New Piano Quartet Art of the Determined to Receive Premiere at the Australian National Academy of Music's 'Sounds of Australia' Festival

A new Piano Quartet by Dr Anne Cawrse (our Adjunct Lecturer in Composition) will receive its premiere in the Australian National Academy of Music's chamber music festival Sounds of Australia. Entitled Art of the Determined, Cawrse's new work was commissioned by John Daley in memory of Professor David Penington AC.

Elder Conservatorium Baroque Ensemble at North Adelaide Baroque Hall

On Thursday 17 October the Elder Conservatorium Baroque Ensemble had their final end-of-year concert at the North Adelaide Baroque Hall. 18 students took part in a concert featuring the music of Lully, Corelli, Vivaldi, Muffat and Dall'Abaco to a very full and receptive house.

Elizabeth Layton with the ASO in Adelaide and Gawler

Violinist Elizabeth Layton was soloist and director with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in two sold-out concerts in Adelaide and Gawler, with repertoire ranging from CPE Bach to Peter Maxwell Davies. The performances will be broadcast on ABC Classic on Monday 28 October at 1.00pm.

Seraphim Trio Tour in Victoria – September 2024

Seraphim Trio (Anna Goldsworthy, Helen Ayres and Tim Nankervis) enjoyed a whirlwind tour of Victoria between September 5 and 8, performing trios by Beethoven, Lili Boulanger and Saint-Saëns at Beleura House and Garden in Mornington, Tempo Rubato in Brunswick, Queens College at the University of Melbourne, for the Camberwell Music Society, and at Ballarat's Anglican Cathedral Synod Hall.

OMA Student Sissi Rong Awarded A+ for AMEB Grade 8 Flute Examination

Sissi Rong was recently awarded an A+ in her AMEB Grade 8 comprehensive flute examination. Sissi has been studying the flute with Anna Henwood at the Open Music Academy (OMA) since 2021 and is in Year Nine at Glenunga International High School. She shares her reflections on learning at the OMA:

William Judd in Mount Gambier Eisteddfod

Open Music Academy (OMA) student William Judd, who lives in Mt Gambier (the family gets up at 4am to drive to Adelaide for lessons on Saturday) won every section of his age group at the recent Eisteddfod in Mt Gambier.
