Elizabeth Layton and Edith Salzmann in Thailand
Dr Elizabeth Layton (Head of Classical Performance) and cello lecturer Edith Salzmann travelled to Thailand in January for an extensive recital and masterclass tour in collaboration with Silpakorn University, Bangkok. The tour started with concerts in Chiang Mai and Hua Hin together with violist Dr Tasana Nagavajara from Silpakorn University.
A performance of Mozart's rarely-heard Divertimento in E-flat major for String Trio, K. 563 in Chiang Mai started things off, followed by an extensive residency at the prestigious Prem International School (in a fabulous scenic location in the mountains, about 30 minutes from Chiang Mai) including masterclasses, individual teaching and concerts.
Next was a performance in Hua Hin, before continuing to Bangkok for masterclasses for Silpakorn University and a concert series for the Goethe-Institut Thailand including pianist Andrey Gugnin (winner of the 2016 Sydney International Piano Competition). The tour concluded in Pattaya with a final concert including Mozart's G minor Piano Quartet, K. 478, and Schumann's Piano Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 47.
