'Canopy' for Clarinet Quintet and Strings by Dr Anne Cawrse Premiered at the Warren Chamber Music Festival by Lloyd Van't Hoff and Friends

Canopy for Clarinet Quartet and String Orchestra – a new work by our Adjunct Lecturer in Composition, Dr Anne Cawrse, and Australia's first work for this instrumentation – received its world premiere on Friday 2 May in the Nevertire Memorial Hall as part of the Warren Chamber Music Festival (Thursday 1–Sunday 4 May), who commissioned the piece with support from the New Zealand High Commission to Australia.
Canopy was performed by clarinetists Justin Beere, Lloyd Van't Hoff, Alex Morris and Nick Evans, alongside the New Zealand String Quartet – Peter Clark (violin), Monique Lapins (violin), Gillian Ansell (viola), and Callum Hall (cello) – with Aly Partridge (cello), Tom Higham (viola), Paul Stender (cello), Max McBride (double bass), Mia Stanton (violin), Christine Wang (cello), Alex McFarlane (viola), Lachlan O'Donnell (violin), and festival director Frances Evans (violin). The premiere resonated so deeply with the audience that the musicians were asked to perform it again the following evening, on Saturday 2 May, at the Collie Community Hall!
