Elder Conservatorium Chorale and Symphony Orchestra in Duruflé's Requiem

On Saturday 24 May, Associate Professor Carl Crossin OAM conducted the Elder Conservatorium Chorale and Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra in a very special performance collaboration. Chorale and ECSO presented Maurice Duruflé's Requiem in the lofty and resonant spaces of St. Peter's Cathedral in North Adelaide. Composed in 1947, Duruflé's most extended work is one of the great Requiems in the choral/orchestral repertoire and the two Conservatorium ensembles gave a committed, impassioned and moving performance of this beautiful and reflective music to a 'sold-out' audience. The concert also featured unaccompanied choral music (Trotta, Padilla, Nystedt and Duruflé) which the Chorale presented at the beginning of the concert in 'surround sound' mode – the audience was enthralled by the experience of having 80 singers surround and envelop them with warm and crystalline choral sound.
