String Quartet Weekend – May 2025

String Quartet Weekend – April 2025

Twelve string quartets and trios from the Elder Conservatorium, the Open Music Academy and guest ensembles from Melbourne came to the Con last weekend (Saturday 24–Sunday 25 May) for intensive chamber music work with guest artists Caroline Henbest and Dr Elizabeth Sellars who both flew in from Melbourne, Elder Conservatorium faculty members Dr Elizabeth Layton, Dr Stephen King and Edith Salzmann and guest teachers Thomas Marlin, Keith Crellin and Lachlan Bramble.

A jam-packed program awaited the young musicians with several hours of coaching each day, rehearsals, a performance class in Elder Hall on Saturday and a highly successful final concert on Sunday.

A second quartet weekend for 2025 will be held on Saturday 9–Sunday 10 August, with the Australian String Quartet and Elder Con performance staff welcoming quartets from New Zealand and all over Australia, as well as students from our Elder Con string quartet program.
