Nobuntu and Academy Voices Premiere 'Himeji Garden at Dusk' by Dr Carl Crossin OAM and 'Glenelg Sunset' by Dr Anne Cawrse

Two of the leading choral figures in Australia today, Associate Professor Carl Crossin OAM and Dr Anne Cawrse (Adjunct Lecturer in Composition), were commissioned by UKARIA to create new works for this year's A Cappella Academy, which featured Zimbabwe-based female a cappella quintet Nobuntu as ensemble-in-residence, and the new Adelaide-based vocal group Academy Voices (directed by ECM alumnus Jonathan Bligh), comprised of twelve singers from the Adelaide Chamber Singers, Aurora Vocal Ensemble, Festival Statesmen Chorus and Rising Voices.

Composed for this special ensemble of fine choral singers, the two works had their world premiere over two sold-out concerts last Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June at UKARIA Cultural Centre. 'Himeji Garden at Dusk' by Associate Professor Carl Crossin OAM draws on poetry by Ann Nadge, while 'Glenelg Sunset' by Dr Anne Cawrse is a setting of a poem by Peter Goldsworthy.
