String Quartet Courses – August 2025

Our recent String Quartet Weekend (Saturday 9–Sunday 10 August) brought together 12 quartets – seven from the Elder Conservatorium, two pre-tertiary ensembles, two from Melbourne, and one from Auckland.

The standard of playing was outstanding, with students receiving coaching from the Australian String Quartet alongside Dr Elizabeth Layton, Dr Stephen King, Edith Salzmann, Keith Crellin OAM, Thomas Marlin, Dr Helen Ayres, and Alison Raynor. The weekend concluded with a full-house concert, showcasing the hard work and artistry of all participants. The enthusiasm and high-level of music-making left both faculty and students inspired, with quartets already keen to return next year.
