ECM Flute Students Triumph in the Adelaide Eisteddfod

Elder Conservatorium flute students Lucy Ryan, Hope Sawers, Annaliese Jeffery and Georgia Morton, alongside Open Music Academy (OMA) student Renee Yang, have all recently received prizes in the Adelaide Eisteddfod Flute Division.

Last fortnight, we had the privilege of hosting Grammy Award-winning bassist and composer Linda May Han Oh (Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music, New York) at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, in partnership with the Helpmann Academy.

A special congratulations to ten of our current students and alumni of the Bachelor of Music Jazz Performance program, who were presented with the Helpmann Academy Awards for Jazz at 'A Night of Jazz with Linda May Han Oh' on Saturday 16 August at UKARIA Cultural Centre.

Dr Dylan Henderson Presents and Performs at Cornell University, New York

Elder Conservatorium PhD graduate and Communications Manager Dr Dylan Henderson recently returned from a three-week trip to the United States. Dylan presented and performed at the festival/conference 'Forte | Piano 2025: Crafting Soundscapes – A Festival Celebrating Pianos in History and History in Pianos' at the Cornell Center for Historical Keyboards (CCHK) at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

2026 Akaroa Music Festival Lineup Announced

Edith Salzmann – Akaroa Music Festival 2026

The artist lineup for the 19th International Akaroa Music Festival (Saturday 3–Sunday 11 January 2026) has recently been announced. Under the artistic direction of Elder Conservatorium Cello Lecturer and Open Music Academy (OMA) Associate Director Edith Salzmann, the festival will showcase no less than six ECM faculty members.

Luke Dollman Leads 'Teaching from the Podium' Workshop for the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra

On Monday 4 August, Associate Professor Luke Dollman led the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra's 'Teaching from the Podium' workshop in the Grainger Studio, which also featured Michael Ierace as repetiteur. Teachers explored a range of conducting techniques, and all had their turn on the podium. They also observed Nicholas Buc working with the ASO and student musicians during the Big Rehearsals program, offering a real-world look at conducting in action.

Grayson Rotumah, Co-Director of the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM) was recently profiled in the University of Adelaide's 'Celebrating our colleagues' series. In the interview, Grayson talks about his childhood growing up as part of the Bundjalung community, his musical heroes, and how he came to find himself working and teaching in Adelaide.
