Timothy Clarkson and Alex Taylor Join Our Jazz Department

We are thrilled to announce that we have two new permanent staff members joining us from the beginning of this semester: Timothy Clarkson from NSW and our very own Alex Taylor!

Alex Taylor and Timothy Clarkson

Trombonist / composer / bandleader Alex Taylor has been teaching for us for over a decade, taking trombone students, brass masterclasses, piano classes, Jazz Musicianship classes, small ensembles, and Big Band. He is deeply connected with the SA jazz scene as most of you know, and he is a genuinely passionate educator and we are thrilled that he can be part of our team in a permanent way.

Saxophononist / reeds player / composer / bandleader Timothy Clarkson is new to most of us but he has been deeply connected in the Sydney jazz scene for decades. Tim has been working in the jazz department at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music for many years taking saxophone students and many different classes; he just handed up his PhD (on the day of his interview!); he has been presenting at international conferences and wrote a chapter in the Vernon Press book, Many Paths at Once: The Interactive Pitch Space of 'Pursuance' and Improvisation in The John Coltrane Quartet; he has his own 'Tim Clarkson Trio' which has toured internationally, but he is part of multiple musical scenes as a member of Mara!, the Dan Marnett Big Band, the Greasy Chicken Orchestra and so many more. Equally important, he is a passionate educator! Congratulations and welcome to Tim and Alex!
