UNESCO International Jazz Day 2025

On International Jazz Day our students, staff and alumni were well-represented at the Adelaide Festival Centre's Annual Concert in the Dunstan Playhouse, Wednesday 30 April.
May 2025 Graduations

The achievements of 88 Elder Conservatorium students were celebrated in the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics (ABLE) graduation ceremony in Bonython Hall on Tuesday 13 May. A special congratulations to our newly-minuted PhD graduates Dr Anna Henwood (Mace Bearer, University Doctoral Research Medal) and Dr Joe Chindamo OAM; Euan Safey (Valedictorian); and Jenny Su (University Medal).
Elder Conservatorium Music Theatre Alumni Barbara Toparis, Cooper Everett and Greg Mitchell Perform in The Australian Ballet's 'Manon'

Three of our Bachelor of Music Theatre alumni – Barbara Toparis (2022), Cooper Everett (2023), and Greg Mitchell (2024) – are currently performing in Manon, presented by The Australian Ballet at the Sydney Opera House from Wednesday 30 April–Saturday 17 May as professional actors, supporting the cast.
'Canopy' for Clarinet Quintet and Strings by Dr Anne Cawrse Premiered at the Warren Chamber Music Festival by Lloyd Van't Hoff and Friends

Canopy for Clarinet Quartet and String Orchestra – a new work by our Adjunct Lecturer in Composition, Dr Anne Cawrse, and Australia's first work for this instrumentation – received its world premiere on Friday 2 May in the Nevertire Memorial Hall as part of the Warren Chamber Music Festival (Thursday 1–Sunday 4 May), who commissioned the piece with support from the New Zealand High Commission to Australia.
Jazz Ensemble Outreach Visit to Marryatville High School

On Thursday 3 April, students from the Elder Conservatorium Jazz Honours cohort visited Marryatville High School for an outreach event. Will Davies (tenor saxophone), Will Morley (trombone), Keiran Beasley (voice), James Ho (drums) and old Marryatville scholar Kallan Francis (third-year jazz advanced student, guitar) performed a short concert before giving a workshopping session with Marryatville's small jazz combo.

Georg Gulyás Residency and Concert
We currently have the pleasure of hosting internationally acclaimed Swedish guitar virtuoso Georg Gulyás for a two-week residency at the Elder Conservatorium. Our undergraduate and Open Music Academy (OMA) students have already worked through a wide range of solo and ensemble repertoire with Georg and are looking forward to more fun and learning during week two of his residency.
Kallan Francis and James Ho Selected for Australian National Jazz Orchestra Youth Big Band 2025

Kallan Francis (third-year Bachelor of Music Jazz Performance Advanced, guitar) and James Ho (Bachelor of Music Honours, bass) have been selected (through audition) to be part of the celebrated Australian National Jazz Orchestra (ANJO) Youth Big Band for 2025.
Adelaide Cabaret Festival to Host Preview Screening of 'PRIMETIME' by Millicent Sarre and Joseph Simons

The Adelaide Festival Centre will be hosting a special work-in-progress showing of a new Australian musical, entitled PRIMETIME, by our Music Theatre lecturer Joseph Simons and award-winning Class of Cabaret alumna Millicent Sarre, as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival (Thursday 5–Saturday 21 June).

Elder Conservatorium Honours conducting graduate Chris Day was recently appointed to the role of Lecturer in Music (Concert Band Conducting) at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.
