2026 Akaroa Music Festival Lineup Announced

The artist lineup for the 19th International Akaroa Music Festival (Saturday 3–Sunday 11 January 2026) has recently been announced. Under the artistic direction of Elder Conservatorium Cello Lecturer and Open Music Academy (OMA) Associate Director Edith Salzmann, the festival will showcase no less than six ECM faculty members.

Luke Dollman Leads 'Teaching from the Podium' Workshop for the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra

On Monday 4 August, Associate Professor Luke Dollman led the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra's 'Teaching from the Podium' workshop in the Grainger Studio, which also featured Michael Ierace as repetiteur. Teachers explored a range of conducting techniques, and all had their turn on the podium. They also observed Nicholas Buc working with the ASO and student musicians during the Big Rehearsals program, offering a real-world look at conducting in action.
Celebrating Our Colleagues: Grayson Rotumah

Grayson Rotumah, Co-Director of the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM) was recently profiled in the University of Adelaide's 'Celebrating our colleagues' series. In the interview, Grayson talks about his childhood growing up as part of the Bundjalung community, his musical heroes, and how he came to find himself working and teaching in Adelaide.

OMA Student Spotlight – Natasha Paran

Huge congratulations to Open Music Academy (OMA) student Natasha Paran, a talented and hardworking Year 10 violinist, on an extraordinary series of achievements this month. Natasha gave a brilliant performance of Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26 with the Unley Symphony Orchestra, following her win at the Eisteddfod Concerto Competition earlier in the week with Édouard Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole, Op. 21.

ECM Jazz Big Band Visits Woodville High School

Our Elder Conservatorium Jazz Big Band, led by the wonderful Alex Taylor, recently took a trip to Woodville High School where they played and workshopped songs with the Woodville Big Band. A lovely experience for both the Elder Con and Woodville students!

String Quartet Courses – August 2025

Our recent String Quartet Weekend (Saturday 9–Sunday 10 August) brought together 12 quartets – seven from the Elder Conservatorium, two pre-tertiary ensembles, two from Melbourne, and one from Auckland.
