Elder Conservatorium Chorale, Associate Professor Carl Crossin OAM (conductor) and Karl Geiger (piano) performing in the 'From little things...' concert in Elder Hall, Saturday 1 November 2025

The Elder Conservatorium Chorale gave their final concert for the year on Saturday 1 November in Elder Hall. The concert was the culmination of a four-day residency at the Conservatorium with ensemble coach extraordinaire Timothy Wayne-Wright (a former member of The King's Singers).

2025 SA Music Awards Announced

MusicSA's 2025 SA Music Awards were presented at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Tuesday 28 October. We were especially proud to see such a strong Elder Conservatorium representation: our alumni and students were finalists in 19 out of the 31 separate nomination categories. Our students and alumni were the recipients of 13 awards, and we are very proud that our Head of Jazz, Mark Ferguson, was also the winner of the UNESCO International Collaboration Award.

Two current vocal students of the Open Music Academy (OMA)Pallas Hannan and Kate Magner – were hand-picked to participate in the highly competitive Class of Cabaret program run by the Adelaide Festival Centre in conjunction with the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.

Congratulations to Elder Conservatorium graduates Shawn Hui and Dr Simón Pazos Quintana, who were recently announced as two of the three finalists for the Accompanists' Guild of South Australia's Geoffrey Parsons Award 2025.

Rob Nairn Performs as Soloist with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra in Sydney and Melbourne, and Joins UKARIA's 10th Anniversary Celebrations

In their most recent season, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra featured staff member Rob Nairn as a soloist in his own arrangement of Vivaldi's Cello Concerto in C minor, RV 401. Six performances in Sydney at the City Recital Hall (Tuesday 17–Saturday 21 June) were followed by three at the Melbourne Recital Centre (Thursday 26–Sunday 29 June). Rob also joined the Australian String Quartet and members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra in UKARIA's 10th anniversary celebrations on Friday 22 and Sunday 24 August, in a program led by Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto.

Sterling Rieck, Tim Tran and Stanley McDonald Tour Europe with the Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO)

Elder Conservatorium students Sterling Rieck (viola), Tim Tran (viola), and Stanley McDonald (tuba) recently participated in the Australian Youth Orchestra's 2025 International Tour, held from Thursday 5 June–Tuesday 1 July. The tour featured conductor David Robinson, soloists Christian Li (violin) and William Barton (didgeridoo), and many of Australia's best young musicians.

Elder Conservatorium Welcomes New Students at A Day at the Con! 2025

On Saturday 30 August, the Elder Conservatorium of Music opened its doors to the public for A Day at the Con! 2025, welcoming an enthusiastic and talented group of high-school students for a range of workshops, masterclasses, and a variety of ensemble activities across our four disciplines.

The Magic Flute (State Opera South Australia)

Our second- and third-year Classical Voice students are currently performing as part of the Chorus in State Opera South Australia's magnificent production of Mozart's The Magic Flute – a collaboration with Opera Hong Kong and the Beijing Music Festival, conducted by SOSA Artistic Director Dane Lam and directed by Shuang Zou.
