PianoLab Returns to ILA in 2024
PianoLab is a two-day festival (Friday 14–Saturday 15 June) that defies boundaries, reimagining both the piano and the recital within the immersive digital setting of ILA.
ECM Jazz Department Staff and Alumni Profiled in 'Dingo' Journal
Recently the Australian Jazz Journal Dingo featured an article profiling 65 Australian Jazz musicians. Each artist was asked to explore their influences, their backgrounds and to provide personal reflections on jazz. It was lovely to see seven Elder Conservatorium alumni included in this fascinating article: saxophonists Gai Bryant and Adam Page, trombonists Jasmine Hall and Alex Taylor, drummers Ronny Ferella and Angus Mason, and our current Head of Jazz, pianist Mark Ferguson. Elder Conservatorium Alumnus Edmund Black Awarded Helpmann Academy InReview Mentorship
Recent Bachelor of Music (Advanced) graduate and emerging jazz pianist Edmund Black is one of two recipients of the 2024 Helpmann Academy InReview Mentorship program.
'She Speaks' Festival Receives a Five-Star Review in Limelight
The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra's third instalment of the She Speaks festival, highlighting the music of women composers, was held in Elder Hall from Friday 31 May–Sunday 2 June, featuring four concerts curated by our Adjunct Lecturer in Composition, Dr Anne Cawrse, and Elder Conservatorium alumnus Belinda Gehlert.

SOSA and STCSA Co-Production of Bernstein's 'Candide' Described as 'The Best of all Possible Performances' and 'The Finest Music Theatre Seen in this City for Years'
State Opera South Australia and State Theatre Company South Australia's co-production of Leonard Bernstein's comic operetta Candide (Thursday 23–Saturday 25 May), featuring 44 Bachelor of Music Theatre students and the professional debut of recent graduate Taylah Johns, has been described as 'the best of all possible performances' (Broadway World) and 'the finest music theatre seen in this city in years' (InReview).

Dr Emma Gregan Gives South Australian Premiere of Catherine Likhuta's Horn Concerto with Unley Concert Band
Congratulations to our Head of Brass, Dr Emma Gregan, who gave the South Australian premiere of Catherine Likhuta's 'Sure Fire – Concerto for Horn and Wind Band' with the Unley Concert Band on Saturday 18 May at St Peter's Girls' School.
Teddy Tahu Rhodes Triumphs in Puccini's Tosca (Opera Queensland) and Mendelssohn's Elijah (Sydney Philharmonia Choirs)
Congratulations to Teddy Tahu Rhodes, who recently sang the role of Baron Scarpia in Puccini's Tosca at the Opera at Jimbour event at Jimbour House (Friday 10–Sunday 12 May), and the following weekend sung the title role in Mendelssohn's Elijah, joining Sydney Philharmonia's 400-voice Festival Chorus and conductor Brett Weymark in the Sydney Opera House for this colossal masterpiece.
Cornucopia
On Sunday 9 June at 7.30pm in Elder Hall, the Elder Conservatorium Baroque Ensemble led by Artistic Director Rob Nairn and guest concertmaster Ben Dollman will present 'Cornucopia', a celebration of the baroque horn.
