From the moment the first warm-up note sounded with Sarah Byron, there was an unmistakable buzz in the air – a shared excitement among students, teachers, and saxophone lovers alike.

Elder Conservatorium Chorale and Symphony Orchestra in Duruflé's Requiem

On Saturday 24 May, Associate Professor Carl Crossin OAM conducted the Elder Conservatorium Chorale and Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra in a very special performance collaboration. Chorale and ECSO presented Maurice Duruflé's Requiem in the lofty and resonant spaces of St. Peter's Cathedral in North Adelaide.

May 2025 Graduations

The achievements of 88 Elder Conservatorium students were celebrated in the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics (ABLE) graduation ceremony in Bonython Hall on Tuesday 13 May. A special congratulations to our newly-minuted PhD graduates Dr Anna Henwood (Mace Bearer, University Doctoral Research Medal) and Dr Joe Chindamo OAM; Euan Safey (Valedictorian); and Jenny Su (University Medal).

The Australian Ballet's 'Manon'

Three of our Bachelor of Music Theatre alumni – Barbara Toparis (2022), Cooper Everett (2023), and Greg Mitchell (2024) – are currently performing in Manon, presented by The Australian Ballet at the Sydney Opera House from Wednesday 30 April–Saturday 17 May as professional actors, supporting the cast.

'Canopy' for Clarinet Quintet and Strings by Dr Anne Cawrse Premiered at the Warren Chamber Music Festival by Lloyd Van't Hoff and Friends

Canopy for Clarinet Quartet and String Orchestra – a new work by our Adjunct Lecturer in Composition, Dr Anne Cawrse, and Australia's first work for this instrumentation – received its world premiere on Friday 2 May in the Nevertire Memorial Hall as part of the Warren Chamber Music Festival (Thursday 1–Sunday 4 May), who commissioned the piece with support from the New Zealand High Commission to Australia.

Third-year jazz vocalists Maisie Aitken and Grace Northam have been announced as finalists in the 2025 Generations in Jazz Vocal Scholarship.

Fiona McArdle, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Joshua van Konkelenberg and Emma Gregan Take Flight at Her Majesty's Theatre

On Thursday 8–Saturday 10 May, State Opera South Australia gave the first Australian performance since 2006 of Jonathan Dove's acclaimed opera Flight at Her Majesty's Theatre, directed by Stephen Barlow. The superb cast included Elder Conservatorium PhD candidate Fiona McArdle as Minkswoman and Head of Classical Voice Teddy Tahu Rhodes as Immigration Officer, accompanied by musicians from the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Charlotte Corderoy), including our Head of Brass Dr Emma Gregan (horn) and Elder Conservatorium lecturer Dr Joshua van Konkelenberg on celeste.

2025 Music Theatre Graduating Class Triumphs in 'Into the Woods'
