LA Philharmonic Wind Quintet in Residence

Next week, we have the special privilege of hosting five outstanding musicians from the LA Philharmonic Wind Quintet for a special residency at the Elder Conservatorium from Tuesday 24–Friday 27 September. They'll work with and alongside our students, in rehearsals, masterclasses, and individual lessons.
New Roles for Edith Salzmann, Luke Dollman and Luke Harrald
Edith Salzmann appointed Associate Director of the Open Music Academy (OMA), Associate Professor Luke Dollman takes up the role of Acting Associate Dean (International Recruitment and Agreements) for FABLE, and Associate Professor Luke Harrald steps into the role of Acting Associate Director of Research.

William Judd Triumphs in Mt Gambier Eisteddfod

Open Music Academy (OMA) student William Judd, who lives in Mt Gambier (the family gets up at 4am to drive to Adelaide for lessons on Saturday) won every section of his age group at the recent Eisteddfod in Mt Gambier.

University of Adelaide Big Band in Clare Valley

Last week, the University of Adelaide Big Band were incredibly fortunate to travel to along with the Open Music Academy! Over three days, the big band performed for various schools and conducted workshops with their music students, topping it off with a concert for the community on Wednesday night.

Elizabeth Layton, Edith Salzmann and Teddy Tahu Rhodes in New Zealand

The beginning of August saw Elder Conservatorium staff Dr Elizabeth Layton, Edith Salzmann and Teddy Tahu Rhodes travelling to New Zealand for concerts and masterclasses.

Jakub Jankowski's 'Ritornello' Performed by the Australian Chamber Orchestra

Next week, the Australian Chamber Orchestra is performing Ritornello by Elder Conservatorium alumnus Jakub Jankowski (Bachelor of Music with Honours in Composition; Graduate Diploma in Conducting) as part of their Tognetti.Bach.Mendelssohn national tour (Newcastle City Hall, City Recital Hall Angel Place, Sydney Opera House, Wollongong Town Hall, Melbourne Recital Centre, Hamer Hall, Adelaide Town Hall, Llewellyn Hall, and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre). This is a significant achievement that builds on Jakub's formidable success this year as the recipient of the 2024 John Bishop Memorial Commission for the Adelaide Festival, and his role as the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra's Emerging Composer in Association. Lloyd Van't Hoff in Townsville and California

Lloyd Van't Hoff, our Head of Woodwinds, recently directed the Pathways Program at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music in Townsville, and was a faculty member at the Del Mar International Composers Symposium in August.

Australian String Quartet Barossa Weekend of Music

Last weekend marked a fantastic few days of music making in the Barossa. Our Quartet-in-Residence, the Australian String Quartet, held their inaugural Barossa Weekend of Music on Friday 30–Saturday 31 August, and were joined by Head of Jazz Mark Ferguson's quartet.

DEM MOB Release New Music Video, Appear in The Advertiser and Perform at BIGSOUND 2024

DEM MOB – alumni from the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM) – released a new music video for their track 'I'll Get By' on Thursday 29 August, and were recently profiled in an article published by The Advertiser celebrating 11 emerging Indigenous leaders, ahead of performances at BIGSOUND 2024 in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley.
