Art of the Possible: Composer Concerts
Over two nights at the University of Adelaide's student-led Art of the Possible Festival, the composition students of the Elder Conservatorium took over Elder Hall.
Douglas Coghill Visit
Last week the Elder Conservatorium hosted violist Douglas Coghill from Coghill String Instruments in Tasmanian. Douglas set up a work room in Elder Hall to do some work on our much-loved instruments and was also kept busy re-hairing bows.
Alice by Heart
Hot off the heels of Jesus Christ Superstar, our Music Theatre department delivered another stunning sold-out production last week. Alice by Heart ran from Thursday 10–Sunday 13 October in Union House's Little Theatre and showcased the talents of our wonderful second year students.

Grace Mensforth Awarded Helpmann Academy Creative Investment Fellowship
Congratulations to Elder Conservatorium alumna Grace Mensforth, who was recently announced as one of four young artists to receive a Creative Investment Fellowship from the Helpmann Academy.

Wake in Fright Wins Helpmann Academy Creative Innovator Program Award 2024
The six-month long Helpmann Academy Creative Innovator program culminated in an exciting finale at the new Flinders City Campus, Festival Tower, on Thursday 3 October. Tartanya-based art-folk band Wake in Fright was presented with $20,000 in start-up funds to undertake a significant Australian and international publicity campaign to support the release of their forthcoming 12-track record, The Modern Shoe is Ruining the Foot, ahead of a tour.

Angela Hewitt Masterclass
It was a very special privilege to have legendary pianist Angela Hewitt with us last week. Our piano students Maria Tynan, Jenny Su and Daniel Brideoake played Handel, Schumann and Liszt for Angela in a masterclass on Tuesday 8 October, before the lucky audience was treated to a performance of Bach's first Partita.
Jay Laga'aia Masterclass
On Tuesday 8 October, students from Music Theatre, Jazz Voice and Classical Voice were treated to an acting masterclass by stage and screen superstar Jay Laga'aia.
Clarinet Mega Day
Our Clarinet Mega Day on Sunday 13 October at the Elder Conservatorium of Music brought together clarinetists of all levels for a day filled with workshops, masterclasses, and performances. Led by Dr Marie Ross, Dean Newcomb, and ECM Head of Woodwind Lloyd Van't Hoff, the day offered valuable insights into technique, equipment, and historically informed performance, culminating in a most exciting final recital with everyone involved.
Jazz Combo Inspirational in Port Augusta for OMA Tour
Mark Ferguson, Head of Jazz, and students, Victoria Katsoulis, Daisy Davidson, Emily Dennis, James Ho and James Nisbet spent three days and two nights in Port Augusta (Monday 23–Wednesday 25 September) for the final Open Music Academy tour of the year. The group's packed schedule saw them providing inspirational performances and bespoke workshops for over 700 students from reception to Year 12 across three schools.
