The distinguished American composer, performer, writer, film maker – and much more – Laurie Anderson, described by the New York Times as one of the world's most influential artists, was the focus of two events in the Adelaide Festival.

Is this the gate? (Daylight Express)
Elder Conservatorium staff performed a major excerpt from a new opera by Nicolas Lens, with a libretto by Nobel Prize winner J.M. Coetzee, based on his novel Elizabeth Costello. In this world premiere, soprano Judith Dodsworth, violinists Elizabeth Layton and Helen Ayres, Stephen King (viola), Tom Marlin (cello), Michael Ierace (piano) and Matthew Kneale (bassoon) gave a performance described as 'outstanding' in The Barefoot Review.
Dancing with the Birds (Daylight Express)
The opening concert in this year's Adelaide Festival Daylight Express series featured several current and former Elder Conservatorium staff members. Titled 'Dancing with the Birds', this concert showcased the talents of our very own Elizabeth Layton, Lucinda Collins, Anna Goldsworthy, as well as Lloyd Van't Hoff who both performed in and curated the event
Lloyd Van't Hoff in Orange Chamber Music Festival
Congratulations to our Head of Woodwind, Lloyd Van't Hoff, who recently performed in the Orange Chamber Music Festival (Thursday 7–Sunday 10 March) with inspiring colleagues including Zoe Freisburg (violin), Vatch Jambazian (piano), Ensemble Trivium, the Orava Quartet, The Song Company, and the Nexus Quartet, amongst others.

Women of Note: Celebrating Australian Composers (Volume 6) Released on ABC Classic
ABC Classic is thrilled to be releasing the sixth volume in their now annual celebration of Australia's female composers, Women of Note, which includes a recording of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra performing Musaic by our Adjunct Lecturer in Composition, Dr. Anne Cawrse.

Recitals on the Fringe (Recitals Australia)
A classical music festival, held during the Adelaide Fringe, of ten classical concerts by recipients awarded the Recitals Australia Elder Conservatorium Fellowship Program held at the North Adelaide Baptist Church Hall.

Charles Bodman Rae Signs Publication Contract with United Music Publishers
Elder Professor of Music, Charles Bodman Rae, has just signed a major publication contract with United Music Publishers (UMP) in the UK. This will result in the commercial publication of the scores of all his works currently represented for sale and hire through the Australian Music Centre in Sydney.

Elder Conservatorium and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Training Program
The ECM is delighted to announce a new collaboration with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in an Orchestral Traineeship Program. Selected students will be offered employment pathway opportunities, working within the ASO to acquire and consolidate the performance skills necessary for a professional career within the twenty-first-century symphony orchestra.

Adelaide Cello Weekend
A huge congratulations to our new cello lecturer Edith Salzmann, who founded and coordinated our first Adelaide Cello Weekend. This wonderful new initiative offered accomplished young cellists the opportunity to participate in ensemble rehearsals and masterclasses over a three-day intensive (Friday 2–Sunday 4 February).
